In freestyle swimming, the most important element that generates your speed is your arm stroke.
For fast and efficient freestyle swimming, it is crucial to maintain the correct swimming technique and to perform the arm stroke correctly. This can only be achieved by performing a stroke with a high elbow position. If your elbow drops at the beginning of your stroke, your freestyle stroke technique will be ruined and you will not be able to get much speed.

So how do you do the correct freestyle arm stroke with a high elbow position?
At the beginning of the arm stroke, make sure your arm is straight in front of you with the elbow pointing up. Your arm should be turned slightly inward.
Then start the arm stroke by moving the forearm down while keeping the elbow high.

Focus on each arm movement while swimming freestyle and imagine that you have to grab a large ball at the beginning of each arm stroke.
